• SokoPro's ecosystem supports the management of the Signe project

In the project that involves the construction of the Signe office building in the heart of Helsinki by Sponda, the main contractor is Jatke Toimitilat Oy. The nature of this project – scope, logistically challenging location and precise sustainability requirements – puts particular pressure on information management. Jatke responded to the challenge by utilising an extensive SokoPro ecosystem.

Sponda, the client of the Signe project , has been using the SokoPro Project Bank in all its construction projects for years.

The main advantage offered by the project bank is management of complex projects, such as new buildings, renovations and tenant changes. Sponda is currently handling dozens of such projects, says Sponda's Property Development Director Jyri Savolainen. SokoPro is a familiar and safe system, regardless of the project size.

    Maximum benefit from digital tools

The Rakennuslehti magazine chose the Signe office building on Mannerheimintie in Helsinki as the winner of the Worksite of the Year competition.

The project is significant both because of its location and strict requirements, as stringent sustainability criteria and the EU taxonomy must be taken into account. In its grounds for its decision, the jury highlighted matters such as the comprehensive use of digital tools, digital situational awareness and information-led management.

The location in the heart of the city made the project logistically challenging. The project started with a demolition contract and continued with construction in a lively urban environment, so the information had to be managed and shared reliably. We are building premium office and retail space, and that in itself brings added interest to what we do, says Project Manager Niklas Huitti from Jatke.

The solution for managing data in the complex project was SokoPro’s Project Bank. The aim was to centralise all information from invitations to tender to contract documents and BIM models in one place.

The fact that all the information is in one place significantly speeds up the start of the project and ensures
that all parties, from the client to the management, have access to up-to-date materials," says Huitti.

The ecosystem supports the construction site

In the Signe project, SokoPro’s Project Bank does not operate on its own, but integrates with other digital tools, such as Vector.io  and Congrid , thereby creating a holistic ecosystem.

The amount of data in construction projects is growing all the time and there must be ways to manage it. The wider the ecosystem in use, the more the benefits are highlighted, emphasises Niklas Huitti.

Signe was piloted with Vektor.io, and it was used to visualise BIM models combined with point clouds and PDF materials. The program also ensures that everyone always has up-to-date plans available to them.

Vektor.io integration is a really important feature for us. When designers store something in the Project Bank, the material can be used immediately. Vektor.io’s measurement properties and quantity properties obtained from data models are important to us. The integration is user-friendly and improves the quality of work, says Huitti.

Up-to-date information manifests as better quality

Working with Jatke’s professionals has provided us with a great opportunity to develop Vektor.io to better serve house projects as well. It has been really great to hear from the management that, for example, the production of 2D cross-sections from BIM models has speeded up day-to-day work at the construction site, as cross-section drawings no longer need to be separately requested from the designer, says Vektor.io's Sales Director Eero Lyytikäinen.

Through the Congrid integration, all construction site data – observations, repairs, inspections, reports – are collected in one place, from where up-to-date status information in turn reaches the entire organisation. This is reflected in the project through improvements in quality, safety and productivity.

Congrid reduces manual work and makes the documentation of site inspections easy and efficient. Sokopro’s interface ensures that the latest floor plans are always in use, on which observations are accurately marked. This is especially important in projects that are as large as Signe, explains Huitti. The cooperation has been seamless and the product has been developed according to our feedback.

The Project Bank guarantees that data is up to date and managed

The most significant benefit from the Project Bank has been the improvement in the project's efficiency and smooth running.

Project Bank ensures that information is kept up to date and properly managed. All tender documents, project contracts and plans are uploaded to SokoPro, from where they are easily accessible to all stakeholders. “This ensures that no one builds based on outdated documents and the information remains tightly controlled, says Huitti.

Sustainability matters related to Sponda's projects also have their own place in the Project Bank. It is easy to report further on environmental issues, as up-to-date information and certificates can be easily found, and the necessary rights are only allocated to those who need them.

For Sponda, it is paramount that the parties’ access rights can be managed and restricted so that each party only sees the information intended for them. In SokoPro, it is easy to build folder structures for different purposes, says Jyri Savolainen.

When a project ends, its materials are transferred to SokoPro’s archive and not to any other system. Gone are the days when projects were loaded onto a USB stick to run, fortunately.

SokoPro's ecosystem connects the customer and the contractor

In the Signe project, the SokoPro ecosystem combines the client’s and the contractor’s information management, creating a basis for a successful project

SokoPro has been in use at Jatke since its establishment in 2009, and cooperation with Sponda has been going on for more than 20 years, says Mikael Winberg, SokoPro's retailer and key account manager at Grano.

SokoPro serves as a tool that brings together all parties involved in the project, but from the client's perspective, the information ownership remains with the property owner. Sponda’s SokoPro platform brought Jatke to the joint work process, where all the information is located in one place.

Winberg sums up the operation of the SokoPro–Vektor.io integration: SokoPro acts as the master record for planning information, and the data streams configured there flow smoothly to the Vektor.io service.

Grano also provides many other services to Sponda and Jatke: Branding of commercial premises for Sponda and worksite signs and printing services for construction sites for Jatke. Building on the positive experience of the Signe project, Jatke Toimitilat also made use of the SokoPro–Vektor.io service package in its second project.
