The SokoPro project bank has been used since the beginning in the construction of Hospital Nova, which is being erected in Jyväskylä. Thanks to SokoPro, the information and documents of the extensive project have been kept up-to-date and available to all parties involved.
The only entirely new hospital in Finland, Hospital Nova of the Central Finland Health Care District, is currently under construction in Jyväskylä. The sketch and proposal design process for the massive project was initiated as early as 2013.
“We moved on to the detailed design in spring 2016 and organised a competitive tendering process for the project management contractor at the same time. In June 2016, we signed the agreements,” says Jari Ilves, project manager for design and construction for the Central Finland Health Care District.
The construction work began in autumn 2016, and the project is intended to be completed in autumn 2020.
“This is an enormous undertaking that involves nearly all functions of the health care district. The aim is to create a high-quality specialised health care environment that is safe and healthy to employees and patients alike. In addition to this, nearly 13,000 sqm have been set aside for the basic health care units of the City of Jyväskylä,” Ilves describes.
Safe information storage throughout the project
Grano’s SokoPro project bank has been used since the beginning in the Hospital Nova construction project. It ensures that the various project-related documents are easily available to all parties concerned and that the information remains up-to-date.
“We’ve been using SokoPro since the very beginning of the design process, through the competitive bidding and detailed design. In the execution phase, we included an additional separate project bank, but we are still also using the bank set up early on,” Ilves says.
SRV is handling the project management contract for the venture. Design Manager Esa Marttila has been involved in the project since SRV secured the contract.
“SRV has been using the SokoPro tendering tool for the competitive tendering. The contractors access the service and download the tendering materials themselves,” Marttila says.
Ease of use and excellent features
The project landed on SokoPro specifically thanks to its ease of use and excellent price-quality ratio. Effective information management plays an essential role through the project’s life span. SokoPro’s version management feature has been found to facilitate the communication of up-to-date information.
“SokoPro has handy document management features, and you can access all information in one place. In this type of project, version management is the right way to store new information. All in all, the project bank is a powerful modern tool that eliminates paper wastage,” Ilves describes.
“We have more than 90 contractors that have saved their own information in the project bank. Everyone can browse the information added by other parties and make additions to their own documents. For example, the lift supplier enters the lift information in the project bank, and the electrical engineer then views the information to determine the type of power supply required by the lifts and draws up the electrical drawings on this basis,” Marttila says.
Both men have collaborated with Grano for years over the course of their careers, and they have been very happy with the services.
“SRV has used SokoPro for many projects and will most likely continue to do so – that’s how useful we have found it,” Marttila says.
